Background and History

The Muslim Awards is an initiative established to recognise, celebrate and promote excellence, outstanding achievements and positive contributions made by individuals, organisations and institutions within the Muslim community in Malawi and the wider society.

Founded in 2022, the initiative was born out of a desire to create a dedicated platform where talent, hard work, leadership, creativity and community service could receive the recognition they deserve. It was established on the understanding that every community has individuals and organisations making meaningful contributions, yet many of their efforts often go unnoticed or uncelebrated.

The Muslim Awards seeks to bridge this gap by bringing these achievements into the spotlight, celebrating positive role models and encouraging a culture of appreciation, excellence and service.

Since its establishment, the Awards have continued to grow, bringing together community leaders, religious scholars, professionals, entrepreneurs, creatives, media personalities, institutions and members of the public. Through its annual ceremony, the initiative provides an opportunity to recognise remarkable contributions across different sectors while strengthening connections within the community.

The Muslim Awards is guided by the following objectives:-

Recognising Excellence: To identify and honour individuals and organisations demonstrating outstanding achievement and positive impact in their respective fields.-

Promoting Positive Role Models: To highlight inspiring stories that encourage young people to pursue education, creativity, entrepreneurship, leadership and community service.-

Supporting Creative Talent: To provide visibility and recognition for artists, performers, poets, nasheed artists and media practitioners.-

Strengthening Community Unity: To bring together individuals and institutions from different backgrounds through a shared celebration of achievement and contribution.-

Encouraging Social Responsibility: To recognise initiatives and individuals contributing to education, humanitarian work, community development and social progress.-

Building Strategic Partnerships: To encourage collaboration between businesses, institutions, community organisations and other stakeholders in supporting positive initiatives.

The Muslim Awards Experience

The Muslim Awards is more than an annual awards ceremony. It is a year-round initiative involving public engagement, nominations, submissions, independent evaluation, partnerships and media activities.

The process provides an opportunity for the public to participate in identifying deserving individuals and organisations. Depending on the category, entries are assessed by independent judges or proceed to public voting.

The annual gala brings together nominees, award recipients, community leaders, business representatives, partners and invited guests for an evening dedicated to recognition, appreciation and celebration.

Through partnerships with businesses, media organisations, institutions and community stakeholders, the initiative continues to create opportunities for collaboration and greater visibility for its participants.

Our Commitment to the Creative and Cultural Sector

An important part of the Muslim Awards is its contribution to Malawi’s creative and cultural landscape.By providing a platform for artists, performers, poets, nasheed creators, photographers, designers and media practitioners, the Awards help promote creative expression and encourage professional development.

The initiative also recognises the importance of documenting and showcasing creative work, giving emerging and established talents opportunities to reach wider audiences.
